How to
Apply Colour Crete™
Use Colour Crete and in no time at all, you’ll
have beautifully-stained concrete and masonry that will enhance
the look and increase the value of your home. You can do it yourself
just by following these simple instructions (for a printer-friendly
version of this page, click here):
Preparation
Before applying, sweep or brush to remove debris. Surface
should be clean and free of grease and oil. Water applied
to the surface should soak in easily. If efflorescence
is present, wash surface with a dilute solution of muriatic
acid and water, then rinse with clear water and allow to
dry fully before applying Colour Crete.
|
Test
Prior to application, Colour Crete should
be tested to determine satisfaction with final appearance.
Test on a small, inconspicuous area and allow to dry fully. Wet
surfaces appear darker. Final appearance should be evaluated
after product dries.
|
Application
Colour Crete should be applied liberally
using a brush, roller, or pump sprayer. Do not allow it
to pool on horizontal surfaces. For a more uniform appearance,
brush excess material into more porous areas until Colour
Crete has fully penetrated the treated surface.
To create a darker tone, allow up to 1 hour dry time before
applying a second coat. Colour Crete can
be applied in one or two coats. Coverage will vary between
60 – 200 sq. ft./gallon, depending on the porosity
of the concrete and the condition of the surface (rough
surfaces use more stain than smooth ones).
|
SPECIAL
EFFECTS
You can achieve special effects by blending
tints of Colour Crete, wet-on-wet, for desired
results. Allow previous coat to begin curing (15 – 20
min.). Colors will not blend if previous coat is fully cured.
No thinning is necessary; Colour Crete should
be applied as supplied.
|
CURING
Concrete can cure for up to six months after the initial
pour. During this time, moisture is released as the concrete
densifies. Allow at least 30 days for moisture to evolve
and surface to appear uniform. Excess moisture at the time
of application will effect penetration of the stain as
well as the consistency of the final effect.
